Every year millions of dollars are spent picking up litter in Kentucky. According to reports submitted to the Kentucky Division of Waste Management, 752,842 bags of litter were picked up from 183,387 miles of Kentucky roadways in 2011.
Grants are administered for litter abatement through the Kentucky Division of Waste Management’s Recycling and Local Assistance Branch in Frankfort. Now is the time for Kentucky counties and cities to apply for 2013 funds. The 2013 litter abatement grant packets were distributed at the beginning of August through the County Judge/Executives Association, Kentucky League of Cities, and were also sent to the county solid waste coordinators.
The 2013 litter abatement grant packets can also be accessed online at http://waste.ky.gov/rla/grants. There are two packet versions – one is designed for counties and the other for cities. The packets include:
- A cover letter
- County Request and Agreement for Anti-Litter Control Program Grant Funding form (DEP 7117) or City Request and Agreement for Anti-Litter Control Program Grant Funding form (DEP 7118), and
- Frequently Asked Questions for Anti-Litter Control Program Grants.
Completed forms must be submitted to Lisa Evans of the Recycling and Local Assistance Branch by 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 1, 2012. There is no match requirement for these grants. Litter abatement grants will be disbursed by approximately Jan. 1, 2013.
