Gov. Steve Beshear announced this week that Kentucky will again take part in a national prescription drug take-back program.
You can safely dispose of medications this Saturday, Sept. 29, on the 5th National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is a great opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted, unused, or expired medications. Search for a collection site near you.
Improper disposal of pharmaceutical waste in our state’s wastewater stream has caused many treatment issues over the years. Now, research has shown the long-term impacts that improperly managed pharmaceutical waste can have on human health, animal well-being and the entire ecosystem. To reduce this risk and to ensure safe, potable drinking water, the department has been working hard to raise awareness about the consequences associated with dumping pharmaceutical waste in what becomes our drinking water supply.
