Members of the Recycling Assistance Section (RAS) Ricky Solomon, Tom Heil, Shannon
Powers, and J.R. Holt, along with Branch Manager Gary Logsdon, participated in
the 2013 Resource Recycling Conference held at the Louisville Marriott Downtown
hotel Aug. 26-28.

The annual conference is hosted by Resource Recycling Inc., a privately held recycling trade publishing company headquartered in Portland, Ore. The conference draws participants from all over the world.

RAS made contacts with individuals and groups from Canada, China and Puerto Rico while getting better acquainted with counterparts from other states including Tennessee, Ohio and Florida.

RAS staff volunteered during sessions as the Q-and-A card distributors and timekeepers for various talks on recycling industry topics such as Policy Opportunities for Packaging and Printed Paper, Recovered Paper Markets: Today and Tomorrow, The State of Aluminum Markets, The Outlook for PE and PET and Getting a Handle on Economic Impacts Studies.

The conference provided RAS staff with excellent networking opportunities and the chance to show off the success of the section’s various programs. Manning the RAS booth outside of the exhibition hall, staff answered questions about recycling grants, household hazardous waste grants, the e-scrap contract and the Waste Tire Trust Fund.

The 2014 Resource Recycling Conference will be held in New Orleans, La., Sept. 16-17. For more information on the conference, click here to go to their website.
