The Energy and Environment Cabinet, Division of Waste Management, received an application from Kentucky Utilities Company for the E.W. Brown Generating Station a special waste landfill in Mercer County.
The application has been determined to be complete and the cabinet has issued a draft permit.
The application, if approved, would allow the construction of a 105.3 acre special waste landfill on top of the existing coal ash pond. The special waste landfill will be used for the disposal of industrial wastes generated from the combustion of coal for electric generation. These wastes include: a) fly ash, b) flue gas desulphurization (FGD) waste, c) bottom ash and d) mill rejects (pyrites) generated at the E.W. Brown Generating Station.
A public meeting and public hearing are scheduled to be held on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at the Mercer County Senior High School, located at 1124 Moberly Road, Harrodsburg, Ky.
