The Kentucky Division of Waste Management’s Solid Waste Branch has issued the following public notice:

Public Notice and Public Meeting, Pursuant to Application # APE2014001, Agency Interest # 4054, Permit # 112-00003: The division received an application from Louisville Gas and Electric Company and KU Services Company to construct a special waste landfill at the Trimble County Generating Station. The proposed landfill will replace a previously permitted, but never constructed, landfill.

The administrative portion of the application has been deemed complete and review of the technical portion of the application has begun. The current special waste landfill is permitted for a waste disposal area of 840 acres. The application proposes a waste disposal area of 189 acres. If approved, the landfill will dispose of industrial waste generated from the combustion of coal for electrical generation. These wastes include bottom ash, fly ash, flue gas desulphurization gypsum and pyrites.

The division has scheduled a public meeting to be held on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at 7 p.m. at the Trimble County High School, 1029 Highway 421 North, Bedford, Ky. The purpose of this meeting is to explain the application process and answer questions concerning the application submitted by Louisville Gas and Electric Company and KU Services Company.
