Public Comment and Request Review Period on RCRA Hazardous Waste Storage Permit Renewal Application

The Blue Grass Army Depot (BGAD), located near Richmond, Ky., provides conventional ammunition services, chemical defense equipment management and manufacturing capabilities for the Department of Defense. The Blue Grass Chemical Activity (BGCA), a tenant of the 15,000-acre depot, is responsible for safekeeping the chemical weapons stockpile stored at the depot. BGAD and BGCA have submitted an application to the Kentucky Department for Environmental Protection, Division of Waste Management, for renewal of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) hazardous waste storage permit. The RCRA permit, set to expire in September 2014, covers both conventional munition operations waste storage in two munition bunkers (igloos) and chemical munitions waste stored in 47 igloos.

Public Comment and Request Review Period: Written/electronic comments must be sent by close of business on May 29, 2014. Request for public hearing with justification, if warranted, must be sent by close of business on May 15, 2014.
