Coal General Permit Training Scheduled

The Kentucky Division of Water (DOW) will host training sessions for new coal general permits and the application process. The training sessions will be held on four dates, beginning on Oct. 2, and in four locations. For a list of dates, times and locations for this training, click here. Please note that the reservation form must be completed and returned at least two days in advance of the session you plan to attend.

Recently, DOW issued two Kentucky Pollution Discharge Elimination System (KPDES) general permits for coal mining in the Commonwealth, in accordance with Section 402 of the Clean Water Act and corresponding regulations. These two new general permits are KYGE40000 for coal mining operations in eastern Kentucky and KYGW40000 for coal mining operations in western Kentucky. The general permits will become effective on Oct. 1, 2014, and replace the general permit for Coal Mining (KYG04000), which expired July 31, 2014.For the complete story, please read the blog post from Sept. 2.
