The Kentucky Division for Air Quality (DAQ) is pleased to announce the release of the 2015 annual report, which details the division’s mission, function, and commitment to protecting human health and the environment.
Kentucky’s continued trend of air quality improvement is evident in the charts found in the Technical Services Branch section of this report. These achievements are only obtained through:
- developing effective regulations and control strategies by the Program Planning Branch;
- issuing appropriate permits containing all applicable requirements by the Permit Review Branch; and
- inspecting sources of air emissions and enforcing emission limitations by the Field Operations Branch.
This collective success and the accomplishments of each branch are dependent on DAQ’s administrative support staff, which provides the necessary resources and support to carry out the division’s mission and obligations.
- The DAQ Field Office Branch staff completed 3,804 compliance inspection of various types at mostly permitted sources and found 89 percent were found to be compliant.
- In FY 2015, the Air Dispersion Modeling Section completed 51 air toxics assessments. These refined modeling runs have yielded data which has been used to verify, adjust or establish limits in permits, justify permit conditions, and protect public health and air quality.
- There were no exceedances of either the 24-hour or annual PM2.5 standards in 2014. Furthermore, no sampler exceeded either the three-year 24-hour standard or the three-year annual standard, during the 2012-2014 averaging period.
- In calendar year 2014, DAQPRB issued 368 permits. Eight of these were considered major economic development projects, which the Division worked on in partnership with the Cabinet for Economic Development.
