Florence facility is environmental leader for the state
FRANKFORT, Ky. (March 24, 2016) ––L’Oreal USA Manufacturing-Florence, Ky. has joined the Kentucky Department for Environmental Protection’s (DEP) environmental leadership program, KY EXCEL. L’Oreal is the newest Master Member, which is the program’s highest level. KY EXCEL recognizes public, corporate and private sector organizations that act to improve Kentucky’s diverse and unique environment through environmental leadership.
“The Department for Environmental Protection is pleased to have L’Oreal Manufacturing USA–Florence, Ky. join the KY EXCEL program at the Master level,” said Paulette Akers, acting director of the Division of Compliance Assistance. “L’Oreal seeks and implements opportunities to improve Kentucky’s environment through voluntary activities at its facility. We support these efforts and congratulate L’Oreal for its membership in the program.”
L’Oreal USA Manufacturing produces consumer products, such as shampoos, conditioners and styling products. L’Oreal’s mission is to provide the best in cosmetics innovation to everyone around the world.
“As a leading Kentucky manufacturer, we are proud to have been recognized by the state as a Master Member of the KY EXCEL program,” said Eric Wolff, plant manager. “Our ongoing efforts in Kentucky are critical to achieving L’Oreal’s Sharing Beauty With All sustainability commitments to reduce our environmental footprint of water consumption, carbon emissions and waste by 60 percent by 2020.”
The five environmental projects chosen by L’Oreal USA Manufacturing–Florence, Ky. are to host an Earth Day event that provides an opportunity for a day of environmental education for the public; use steam instead of hot water to sanitize a packaging line to conserve water; use an Optimization of Cleaning Cycles system on two processing modules to save on water usage; recover water from reverse osmosis and ozone systems; and reduce any overflow from the concentrate recovery tank to accommodate more purified water.
Launched by DEP in 2006, KY EXCEL is a voluntary program open to any individual, organization, community or business to improve and protect Kentucky’s environment above and beyond the state’s environmental requirements.
