Kentucky Department for Natural Resources (DNR) Commissioner Allen Luttrell today announced the appointment of a top department official.
Dennis R. Hatfield, of Louisa, Ky., who has 38 years of experience in engineering, exploration, operations and executive management in the mining industry has been appointed Director of the Division of Oil and Gas for the department. He will start February 1.
“We are pleased to have a person of Dennis’ ability run this key agency,” Commissioner Luttrell said. “His experience in the fossil fuel industry will be important, as this sector is important to Kentucky’s energy future.”
Hatfield is a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mining Engineering. He became Vice President of Planning and Development at Massey Coal Services Inc. in 1990. Five years later, he became president of Martin County Coal Corp., in Inez, Ky.
He also served as an executive of an oil and gas exploration/production company in eastern Kentucky and was a consultant to a regional consulting and engineering geology group.
