Energy and Environment Cabinet Celebrates Earth Day

Clear sunny skies created the perfect day for the Energy and Environment Cabinet’s 2018 Earth Day celebration on April 27, at the 300 Sower Building in Frankfort, Ky. More than half a dozen divisions representing both the Department for Environmental Protection and the Department for Natural Resources had exhibits that were open to both the public and employees.

Other exhibitors included The Raptor Rehabilitation of Kentucky, Woods and Waters Land Trust, Franklin County Solid Waste, Kentucky State University, the Cabinet for Health and Family Services, Glean KY, Life Adventure Center, KET and Together Frankfort.

Building Operator Certification Comes to Kentucky

You can help your company or organization save money by taking your energy management skills to the next level through the Building Operator Certification® program.  The Kentucky Department for Energy Development and Independence (DEDI), the Kentucky Pollution Prevention Center (KPPC) and the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (MEEA) are pleased to announce that the Building Operator Certification® (BOC) program is coming to Kentucky!

Coal Education Grant Applications Now Available

The Energy and Environment Cabinet is now accepting grant proposals for projects that provide public education on coal energy and coal related issues.

Applicants who are Kentucky non-profit organizations or public or private post-secondary educational institutions having qualifications and experience in successfully conducting such programs are eligible to apply.

Underutilized Wood Symposium to Address Energy Development Opportunities

The Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet, through the state’s Wood Energy Team, is offering an opportunity to participate in a regional symposium to address energy and economic opportunities available to foresty and wood industries. The event, “Opportunities for Underutilized Wood: Energy and Products” will be held April 30 and May 1, 2018 at the Erickson Alumni Center, Morgantown, West Virginia.

The average cost in Kentucky for household energy is $2,400 and $3,000 a year for transportation energy. The energy savings tips below have the potential to save 11 percent or $597 a year—a nice gift for you and your family.

Energy and Environment Cabinet to Offer Workshop on 21st Century Energy Infrastructure Through Partnership with PEER

The Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet (EEC) is addressing energy resilience and security through a partnership with a new program called PEER, or Performance Excellence in Energy Renewal.

Modeled after the LEED rating system for Green Buildings and run by GBCI and USGBC, PEER is a new tool to measure and improve power system performance in cities, commercial and industrial complexes, and developed campuses such as military installations. Kentucky is the first state to formally partner with this program and as part of this partnership is creating exclusive opportunities for Kentucky energy leaders.
