Environmental regulations can be confusing. How we manage and interact with our land, air and water resources can have large impacts on the health of the environment. The KY Division of Compliance Assistance is hosting a one-day environmental boot camp designed for the agricultural community and those who work with the community. Presenters from the Department for Environmental Protection and the University of Kentucky’s Biosystems & Agriculture Engineering program will break down what you need to know to keep a farm in compliance. DRINKING WATER COMPLIANCE MONITORING

Many water utilities are having issues related to the cold weather including water line breaks and power outages. Maintaining routine compliance may be difficult or impossible for some utilities. In regards to Monthly Operating Reports (MOR), if a water system did not treat water or did not have water available in its distribution system on specific dates, make sure the correct information is entered as to the actual number of hours and days of operation. Also, operators should make a notation on the MOR or send a separate letter explaining any situation that is not considered routine. DEP Issues a “Frequently Asked Questions” Document Addressing the Existing Kentucky KPDES Coal General Permit

The Kentucky Department for Environmental Protection finalized a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document on Feb. 1, 2013, with respect to the current KPDES general permit (KYG040000) for wastewater discharges from coal mining operations.
