Earth Day Events Announced

The Kentucky Environmental Quality Commission is hosting its annual Earth Day awards ceremony during this year’s state government Earth Day Celebration.

The event, which includes environment-related educational booths and demonstrations, will begin at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 21, 2016, in the Brown-Forman Room at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History, Broadway, Frankfort.

The commission recognizes individuals and entities for efforts to protect the environment and honors them during a ceremony in Frankfort each year during the month of April.

Capture the Earth Photography Contest Deadline Nears

The deadline is approaching for the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet’s fourth-annual “Capture the Earth” middle school digital photography contest for all Kentucky students in grades 6-8. Whether the photo is a native wildflower or wildlife, a landscape or waterscape, we encourage students to share their photography skills through the contest and help create a greater interest in the outdoors.

Judges will look for originality and creativity, photo composition and a brief explanation of how well the photograph celebrates the beauty and diversity of Kentucky and encourages others to care about the state’s environment through stewardship and conservation. Celebrate Earth Day at Capitol Education Center

The Office of the First Lady, the Energy and Environment Cabinet (EEC) and the Kentucky Environmental Education Council are hosting an Earth Day celebration for state employees and the public from 10 a.m. – noon on Monday, April 22, 2013. The educational event will take place at the new Capitol Education Center located on the Capitol grounds.

The event will recognize the 2013 Kentucky Green Ribbon School award winners, * Kentucky’s 200th ENERGY STAR school, ** Kentucky’s Green & Healthy schools, *** and the winner of this year’s “Capture the Earth” middle school photography competition. First Lady Jane Beshear to Welcome First Electric Vehicles to DEP Fleet

First Lady Jane Beshear is scheduled to kick-start Earth Day festivities this year beginning at 9 a.m.,  April 22nd at the Department for Environmental Protection headquarters in Frankfort.  Mrs. Beshear will cut the ribbon on the newest arrivals to the Department’s fleet: four Chevy Volt plug-in hybrid-electric vehicles and two charging stations.
