On Nov. 5, Chris Craig and Tom Heil of
the Kentucky Division of Waste
Management’s Recycling and Local
Assistance Branch participated in the
official kickoff ceremony announcing
the City of Somerset’s curbside
recycling program.

Mayor Edward Girdler made the announcement to local press and radio media. Also on hand were dignitaries including Somerset City Council members, Pulaski County Solid Waste Coordinator Gerald Hines, Eastern Kentucky Pride Field Representative Mark Davis, and Shannon Rickett, field representative for Congressman Hal Rogers. RAS Participates in Resource Recycling Conference in Louisville

 Members of the Recycling Assistance Section (RAS) Ricky Solomon, Tom Heil, Shannon
Powers, and J.R. Holt, along with Branch Manager Gary Logsdon, participated in
the 2013 Resource Recycling Conference held at the Louisville Marriott Downtown
hotel Aug. 26-28.

The annual conference is hosted by Resource Recycling Inc., a privately held recycling trade publishing company headquartered in Portland, Ore. The conference draws participants from all over the world.

RAS made contacts with individuals and groups from Canada, China and Puerto Rico while getting better acquainted with counterparts from other states including Tennessee, Ohio and Florida. Continue reading “RAS Participates in Resource Recycling Conference in Louisville”

Division of Waste Management announces $3,000 grants available for waste tire program

Kentucky counties urged to apply for funds

Kentucky counties can now apply for $3,000 in waste tire recycling and removal grants from money that is available through the Energy and Environment Cabinet’s Division of Waste Management (DWM) Waste Tire Trust Fund.

“Eligible expenses under this grant are the actual costs that the county incurs during the grant period for recycling or disposal of waste tires,” said Gary Logsdon, manager of DWM’s Recycling and Local Assistance Branch.  “Other expenses, such as labor and equipment costs, are not eligible.”  Continue reading “Division of Waste Management announces $3,000 grants available for waste tire program”

Clean Kentucky Excited for New Campaign

A new effort by Keep America Beautiful (KAB) encourages citizens to take a closer look at their recycling practices. After 40 years of the famous “crying Indian” ad campaign, the Ad Council and Keep America Beautiful have released a new campaign.  “I Want to Be Recycled” advertisements will play on television sets and appear in print.

Kentucky’s KAB affiliate, Clean Kentucky, is housed in the Recycling and Local Assistance branch in the Division of Waste Management. Deborah Conway, Local Assistance section supervisor, is the state contact for KAB. Continue reading “Clean Kentucky Excited for New Campaign”
