Wastewater Lab Certification – Compliance Reminder

The Kentucky wastewater laboratory certification regulation 401 KAR 5:320 has a compliance date of Jan. 1, 2015 for all general laboratories. A general laboratory is any facility that performs analysis required for a Kentucky Pollutant Discharge Eliminations System (KPDES) permit other than field parameters (pH, residual chlorine, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, turbidity, and temperature).

Wastewater Laboratory Certification training set for Nov. 14

The Kentucky Division of Water (DOW) will conduct a training and information workshop on the new Wastewater Laboratory Certification Program Nov. 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (EST) at the offices of Kentucky American Water Co. located at 2300 Richmond Road in Lexington. The Wastewater Laboratory Certification Program establishes procedures for laboratories that perform wastewater testing services under the Kentucky Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (KPDES).

New state regulation requires certification for wastewater labs

A new state wastewater laboratory certification program that became effective Sept. 5, 2013, will standardize the procedures used in obtaining and analyzing wastewater compliance samples and reporting results to help ensure the quality of analytical data used by the Kentucky Division of Water (DOW) for regulatory purposes.

Legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2011 and codified as KRS 224:10-670 requires certification of laboratories that conduct analysis of wastewater at permitted facilities for purposes of compliance. The Wastewater Laboratory Certification regulation spells out the detailed requirements of the program authorized by KRS 224:10-670. Proposed wastewater lab certification regulation moves through first legislative committee review

Technical amendments approved

On July 9, the Administrative Regulation Review Subcommittee (ARRS) of the Legislative Research Commission (LRC) took up the proposed regulation of the Kentucky Division of Water establishing a wastewater laboratory certification program and approved the technical amendments to the regulation. On Aug. 7, the proposed regulation will be referred for consideration to the appropriate jurisdictional committee, namely, the Interim Joint Committee on Natural Resources and Environment.
